But here\u2019s the thing, HVAC brothers and sisters, you <em>have<\/em> to be on social media.\u00a0 I know, I know.\u00a0 You\u2019ve been in business a thousand years.\u00a0 You have a stellar company.\u00a0 Your customers LOVE you.\u00a0 You\u2019ve never needed social media before.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s time to rethink all that.\u00a0 Because social media is a powerful \u2013 and necessary \u2013 tool in HVAC marketing.\u00a0 There are currently 2.3 billion Facebook users, and some of them are local, potential customers of yours.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Social media gives you an opportunity to show who you are as a company.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>It\u2019s all about endearing yourself to the community and earning the trust of people who visit your page.\u00a0 It\u2019s where you post content that positions your company as a valuable community resource.\u00a0 A resource for information about their home and their comfort, as well as a resource for the best service and equipment.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll get some leads from it, sure, but social media is more about supporting your company brand.\u00a0 Not to mention that it improves your website\u2019s organic search.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>So you NEED to stop being anti-social and pay attention to your company\u2019s online profile.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>And here\u2019s another important reason to get social:\u00a0 your competition is already kicking your butt.\u00a0 Right now.\u00a0 They\u2019ve been busy collecting &#8220;likes&#8221; and reviews and building a positive online profile for a few years now.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s why you need to start today: We&#8217;re seeing examples of young technicians starting up their own, new HVAC companies and grabbing leads away from successful, established, 3<sup>rd<\/sup> generation dealerships.\u00a0 All because they are adept at social media.<\/p>\n<p>I recently spoke to a highly successful dealer in his 60s who proudly told me that he had thousands of positive reviews. \u00a0Problem was, they were all in his desk drawer.\u00a0 They were using paper customer surveys.\u00a0\u00a0 These surveys are nice to have but they weren\u2019t doing a darn thing for him.\u00a0 Meanwhile his competitors had hundreds of 5-star online reviews.\u00a0 When a homeowner searches the internet for an HVAC contractor, who do you think they\u2019re going to call?\u00a0 The contractor with the 400 Google reviews, or the one with a drawer full of surveys?<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Adapt or perish.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The reality is that it won&#8217;t matter that you run your business with integrity and your techs are top-notch, if you&#8217;re nowhere to be found on social media when a homeowner picks up her phone and searches for HVAC service.\u00a0 That\u2019s the world we operate our businesses in now, folks.\u00a0 What&#8217;s that old saying?\u00a0 Adapt or perish.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>There\u2019s no doubt that social media is a time suck.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>And it requires some knowledge.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t have someone in your office who can dedicate themselves to learning how to properly manage your company\u2019s Facebook (not to mention Instagram and LinkedIn profiles), then it\u2019s best to align yourself with a company who can do it for you.\u00a0 Preferably a marketing company with HVAC experience.\u00a0 It\u2019s super important to note here that just because someone spends a lot of time on social media, does not mean they are qualified to promote your company online.\u00a0 (To be perfectly clear on that, I&#8217;ll say it a different way:\u00a0 NO, you should not have your teenaged son handle the social media for your professional HVAC company!)<\/p>\n<p>If you want to try to do it yourself, here are a few dos and don\u2019ts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t post about politics or religion on your company Facebook (save that for your personal one)<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t post too much (2 to 3 times a week is good)<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t post too little!
